DESCRIPTION:

The USA Softball All-Star program is also referred to as the traveling All-Stars because the teams representing our league travel to tournaments around Southern California to play teams from other leagues.

TEAM FORMATION:

Typically, PYLGSA has up to three teams (gold, silver, and bronze) at 10U and 12U, two teams (gold and silver) at 8U, and one 14U team (gold).  At the conclusion of the regular season, the division managers will meet, May 1-3. to vote and form the teams.  All-Star managers for these teams are chosen AFTER the teams are formed.

SEASON INFORMATION:

The traveling All-Star season lasts approximately 11 weeks, depending on the success of the team. Practices begin in early May, with typically 3-5 practices per week (including Sundays and may include Mother's Day).  The all-star commitment goes through the last week in July, although any team may play as late as August if they qualify for Western Nationals. Tournaments begin mid May. The format of each tournament typically involves 2-3 games on Friday/Saturday, and then at least one game Sunday, with more to follow if the team wins and advances into the final rounds. Some of the tournaments have a game on Friday night.

FAMILY/OTHER COMMITMENTS:

You cannot miss an All-Star event for vacation, family events other sports team commitments, or any other reason (except illness).  100% attendance is required for all practices and tournaments.  Players who do not meet this requirement may be removed from the team at the sole discretion of PYLGSA.

Please note if your daughter is on a team and the team qualifies for the State and/or National level Tournaments, your daughter MUST attend.  If the team qualifies for Nationals and/or is invited to participate, your daughter MUST attend.  Teams who qualify for higher play MAY NOT DECLINE or we can be eliminated as a league from future opportunities.

FINANCIAL COMMITMENT:

There is a significant financial commitment as well. Team fees are approximately, $550 per player (collected at a later date), which covers the All-Star uniforms, equipment, tournament fees, and other costs. PYLGSA does not offer scholarships to cover All-Stars costs. Families are responsible for the payment of all team costs. In addition, families will have to pay the cost of traveling to each tournament, meals between games, individual team fees to contribute towards team items for the girls, and overnight hotel stays for tournaments that are far away. These costs are estimated at $1500+.

PYL Tournament Volunteer Requirement:

Each year PYLGSA hosts one of the largest invitational tournaments in Southern California.  This year’s tournament will be held 5/23 - 5/26. Every all-star team not only participates in the tournament but is expected to staff it as well. This can include but is not limited to, snack bar duty, field duty, or other services.  Each family can expect to spend all 3 days at the fields for up to 8 hours per day.  100% participation is required by all families/players. Your time is meaningful and valuable to us and this tournament does not happen without the support of all families.

All-Star Player Interest Contracts:

All-Star INTEREST FORMS WILL BE COMING SOON!!!

Each year PYLGSA sends out a online interest form to all registered players of the Spring Season.  100% participation in completing the form allows for all players to be considered for the program who wish to be considered.
